a nice b'day experience

From Ben Casnocha's blog:

Kevin Pasquinelli, CRM consultant, JD candidate, former Comcate consultant

Never say never!"

- When I was 18, and entering college, I said that I would dedicate my life
to science and never become an engineer. I graduated with a BSEE.
- As I became immersed in electrical engineering I said that I would never
concentrate in software. I went on to obtain a MSCS.
- Upon graduation, I said I would work only on applications and never on
compilers and software development tools (aka software that generated more
software was a "ridiculous use of my time"). Soon thereafter, I became
product manager for compilers and software development tools at Hewlett
Packard.
- During this entire time, my family encouraged me to become an attorney and
I responded; "What a dull and boring job." I am due to receive my J.D. in
May 2006.

Life is an adventure. Live it. Never count any vocational path out.

wanna work?

We had a motivational session tonight for preparing for placement interviews. Most of the speakers were lack lustre(not a surprise really, public speaking is not something most of us here in my college are good at), but one particular fellow stood out. Bhanu has always been a guy who's like symbolised meticulousness.
He had some interesting things to say about job in a Consulting Company(McKinsey in his case). He had the following things to say:
1. A typical day: Get up in the morn.Report to boss. Get action plan for the day. Meet the client. Get the work done. Report back to boss before signing off for the night.
2. Lots of travel involved: It seems glamourous and attractive in the beginning but is actually a big negative because after a little while, the regular plane hopping doesn't feel so good. So be sure that you're not travel averse.
3. Ownership: This was an interesting thing he had to say. In the words of an HR exec he' talked to, a consultant owns nothing except his laptop and a wireless card. You live out of a suitcase, and your client is all you have.
Not a bad deal I'd say. The travel part is actually very attractive as I'm just not the stay in one place kind. I'll definitely have to give a serious thought to consulting now.

and i start

After many half hearted and unsuccessful tries I've finally decided to not deny the blogging world of my presence any longer(hehe,i guess i can safely boast about untill the spam trolls arrive). I have been reading quite a few blogs now for some time now, and enjoyed some and hated some others, and its high time i got my two words in.
